Skills2Care® Program for Care Partners of Individuals with Dementia
Skills2Care® is an evidence-based, BPC-approved program developed by researchers at Thomas Jefferson University that helps care partners of people living with dementia to manage daily challenges more effectively at home. Best Practice Caregiving is a free online database of vetted dementia programs for family caregivers. Skills2Care® can be delivered in person or via telehealth and is covered by Medicare Part B. Program content includes:
- Understanding the specific dementia diagnosis and current level of physical and cognitive function
- Reducing challenging behaviors such as resistance to care, wandering, and repetitive questions
- Promoting function in the context of dressing, toileting, bathing, grooming/hygiene, and other important daily routines
- Communicating effectively with a person with dementia
- Making the home safer
- Care partner self-care and stress management
